Aladdin review..LOL

Post by MadameChung on Sat Mar 03, 2012 12:53 am

the reviewer in has said (doing the baloncy scene) "Is the advice of this movie not take advice from anyone?"

after Aladdin's almost drowning "Is Aladdin the only one in this movie not needing his eyes check?"

when Jafar in his hideout in the place "Is no one capable of recognizing faces in this movie? Maybe its because he wasn't wearing his signature fez. Like it says in the Bible know them by their headgear."

my disney reviews Now opened for discussion!!

Post by MadameChung on Sat Mar 03, 2012 1:30 pm

I’m not going to review Dumbo, Astriocats because there technically wasn’t a story/novel beforehand. So there’s nothing to compare them too. I’m not doing Hercules, or Tarzan because I haven’t seen either of them. I just have to stress one thing. Yes the Disney princess DID marry young. But in the past if you were a girl if you weren’t married by the age of 20, you were considered a spinster. If you were consider a spinster you had NO hope of getting a husband.

Snow White
Why do people think the Prince is a pedophilia in the film? Snow is at least 14 in this movie. In the original she's 7. Which is better? The prince falling in love at first sight with a living princess, or falling in love with a "dead" 7 year old princess? Oh and there's no kiss in the original story. There were ideas that were scrapped because the “Prince was too difficult to animate” a scene where the princess has some free time and makes a bucket and broom prince, which the real prince pretends to be. The Queen capturing and proposing to the Prince and the prince rejecting her. The Queen chaining him up in her dungeon. After The Queen finding out Snow is alive trying to drown him. There’s no kiss in the original.the apple gets dislodge when the Prince’s servants move the coffin. Oh and the Wicked Queen is forced to dance to death at the 7 year old Queen Snow’s wedding wearing red hot-iron shoes.

Pinocchio
He was a bad boy yes but he only lied once in both the movie and the original story. Technically in the original story. Pinocchio does have a past. Gettapo’s neghbiour is starting to carve a log and the log says “Hey” which scares the heck out of the neghbiour that he gives it to Gettapo who makes it into a boy. Yes the boys-into-donkeys and Pleasure Island does happen in the book. I read somewhere that in original story the cricket conscious gets smashed by a hammer. Pinocchio (who does turn into a donkey) is sold to a circus where he stays until he gets injured. Which is when he sold to someone else (who thinks he’s a donkey) and tries to drown him, but the fish eat off the donkey skin. Yes the cat and fox are in the original story too and fools Pinocchio more than once. Oh and Monstro is a SHARK in the original story.

Bambi
Both Disney and the original author were both hunters. First thing first in the original story Bambi is a roe tail deer. Faline has a twin brother who “disappeared” during the same time Bambi’s mom dies. So people (or should I say animals?) believe he is dead too. The brother shows up again in the spring and is wearing a harness. But the next time “Man is in the forest” the brother’s trusting of humans is what gets him killed. There’s no Thumper in the story. Oh and all male deer (stags to us humans) are “princes” to the does/fawns. When he gets his second set of antlers he battles twice for Faline. In the movie the biggest stag, is called the Great Prince, but in the book..He’s called the Old Prince. But in both cases.. The Great Prince/Old Prince is Bambi’s father (that makes me wonder did Bambi’s father’s mom die well the father was young?)

The Adventures of Mr. Toad and Ichbod Crane
The Wind in the Willow’s adaption was very good. But I just have to counter-argue that Ichbod Crane was a gold-digger. Well you see in the time period of then..teachers weren’t paid much (expect food&board). Well the way the students’ parents paid him was with food. So for the time period, being a teacher was basically a crappy job. So the only way life could have gotten better for him was marrying higher up the ladder..and that’s a big accomplishment when you have nothing but your personality to give to marriage.

Cinderella
DISNEY’S VERSION IS BASED UPON PERRAULT’S STORY. Sorry I just had to do that. Because it’s based upon Perrault’s version has the godmother, coach and glass slipper because Perrault’s version was for the nobility. I have to yell again ONLY CINDERELLA’S PRINCE NAME IS CHARMING (ALL OTHER princes, in the FT world are nameless, in the original stories). Thank you for letting me do that. Why do people say that Cinderella should get up and leave? Where would she go too? Her birth parents are dead, women didn’t have many (if any rights) back then. Her birth parents are dead; her only relatives are her step-family. There weren’t any women’s shelters back then either.

Alice in Wonderland
All I have to say is this is Tweedledee/Tweedledum don’t belong in Alice in Wonderland at ALL. They belong in Alice through the Looking Glass.

Peter Pan
Why do movies like Peter Pan and the 1939 MGM Wizard of Oz movie make Neverland/Land of Oz a DREAM since in the original stories they both were REAL places. I mean its ok for Wonderland to be a dream since that’s what it was in original story. The Lost Boys aren’t Orphans..It’s just trying to imagine this: You’re a child in middle to upper class family. Your mom has to entertain/go to events with her husband’s friends’ wives (and some friends of her own?), your dad is the bread-winner for the family. You and your siblings as children are stuck with the Nanny. You only see your parents once in the morning and just before you go to bed. Now would you remember your mom if you didn’t see her very often? Now add to that fact that The Lost Boys were all infants, since they “fell out of their prams”. Not to mention that Neverland has some kind of effect on one’s memory since in the original story the Darling children forget their parents. This is the reason why they had to return home before their parents “forgot” about them. According to Peter Pan each Darling Child had a different image of Neverland. Wendy had a Pet wolf that she raised since she recued it, Michael had a wigwam. John if I remember correctly lived underneath a boat in his version.

Oh and for one thing DISNEY WASN’T A RACIST. African-Americans were working in the company. The Sherman brothers were Jewish, he didn’t even care that people were trying to claim a member of the company was a member of something bad..(But I can’t remember what it was). I mean the voice of Gettapo was a Nazi fascist and he drove the cast and animators crazy. But Disney put up with him. Even Loony Tunes did supposedly “racist” stuff African Americans were either 1) illiterate servants or 2) tribal warriors. Will you call them racist too? Remember the U.S. Civil Rights movement didn’t happen until the 1960s. You guys can claim Disney was racist/anti-Jewish but I think you been watching too much Family Guy.

Sleeping Beauty
This story is based upon 3 things. Grimm Brothers’ Briar Rose, Perrault’s “Beauty in the Woods”, and the ballet. The name Aurora comes from the nameless princess’s daughter in Perrault’s Beauty in the Woods” The name Briar Rose comes from course the Grimm brothers’ “Briar Rose”. In Perrault’s version there are 12 good fairies. Like Snow White, which is better the prince/king falling in love with dead princess or meeting the princess when she is living?? (Not counting 6 or 7 year old Phillip seeing infant Aurora that doesn’t count or does it?) Again there is no kiss. In this case in one version (can’t remember which) it was rape; the princess gets impregnated, and gives birth to twins which is what wakes her up. Oh and the Prince/King (the Prince/King already has a wife in some versions) mom/wife is an ogre. Unlike the versions of Sleeping Beauty stories which focus on the heroine/hero, Disney’s version is more of the conflict between the three good fairies and Maleficent.

101 Dalmatians
There are 4 adult dogs in the original story Pongo and Missy (Pongo’s wife), Perdita, and Perdita’s mate, Prince. Prince is what makes the “one” in the one hundred and one Dalmatian. Once you take away the 4 adult dogs, and Pongo’s 15 puppies, there are 82 other puppies some that belong to Perdita and Prince. Oh in the book Mr. Dearly is a “finical wizard”. Perdita was only gotten to be a canine wet nurse.

Sword in the Stone
Well it was lacking action really. I mean how is Madame Mim the villain? She doesn’t do anything Villainy. Could they at least show some of the Knights of the Round Table’s adventures at least, or shown us somehow Arthur’s half-sisters? I mean Morgana le Fay is more evil than Madame Mim. Could they have shown Excalibur (not the same sword as the sword in the stone)? At the very least could they have at least a prologue explaining how Arthur is the true king of Britain? Since that’s the issue that should be address by the story. For those of you who don’t know I will explain. King Uther is the last King of Britain, he was in love with a woman who already had a husband. Uther with Merlin’s help disguises himself as the said woman’s husband (early Polyjuice anyone?..LOL), pregnant her. The woman gives birth to Arthur and Merlin takes him away and leaves him with Sir Ector.

The Jungle Book
Well the Jungle Book itself..is about Mogli’s adventures in and out of the forest and there isn’t any plot to tie the entire book together. Since the book goes back and forth between the man village and the forest and forward and backwards in time. Oh Baloo and Bagera-sp? roles are reversed. Mogli wants to leave the Jungle in the book.

Robin Hood
Good movie. That’s all I have to say. Too many legends to mention. I would have liked to see the famous John and Robin meeting scene in the Disney’s version.

The Rescuers
Patience is the name of the orphan girl in the book. Mr. Snoopes is a version of Mandrake. The alligators take the place of two bloodhounds. Medusa was based upon the Diamond duchess of the Recusers’ series.

The Fox and the Hound
The movie follows the book for the first half of the story. After Tod returns to the wild. The stories differ. Chief dies and because Chief dies, Copper is mad and wants to kill Tod. But the book doesn’t have a happy ending. Both Copper and Tod die.

The Black Cauldron
This is the scariest Disney movie ever. The hunchback is second scary movie in comparison to this movie. The Black Cauldron was based on the first too books of The Chronicles of Pydrian which was based upon Welsh mythology.

Oliver and company
Based upon Oliver Twist. All I have to say.

Now we FINALLY get to the good movies.

The Little Mermaid
In the oringal story, mermaids don’t have souls. They just become foam when they die. In the oringal story. All mermaids when they are 15 go to the surface. Well the title character in the oringal story turns 15 and does that and rescues fall in love with a human. Well the Prince is discovered on shore by a temple girl (and the prince thinks that the temple girl saves him). Well TLM makes a deal with a sea witch and doesn’t exactly become human. She gains legs yes, but she still has remains of the tail and every time she tries to walk there is major pain. All the Prince does is laugh at her. Well it seems the temple girl is the princess that the Prince is suppose to and does marry. TLM’s sisters tell her that for her to get her happy ending, she has to kill the prince. She loves him too much to do so, and kills herself instead and she becomes “daughter of the air” and she and others have to do good deeds to get a soul.
This is one of my favourite movies since I understand Ariel’s longing to be part of another world (not to mention my red hair). Yes Ariel bitches/whines in the movie.. but the entire story depends on Ariel saving Eric in the first place or there would be no movie. Technically she the person who intaties the story.

Beauty and the Beast
“Tale as old as time/song as old as rhyme”. This is true since the earliest version of a Beauty & the Beast story is called Psyche and Eros. After the Roman counterpart, the hero becomes more prince as a beast. In an earlier version of the story after the roman’s story of Psyche and Cupid, the Beauty has 6 siblings. Beamount (who I guess wrote down her version of the story) changes it to only 2 sisters who are the villains. Well in that version Beauty’s father is a merchant and he lost ships so his family had to move. (Note: before the rose scene, Beauty been having dreams of a man) Well one day after they move the father hears that his ships were not lost. Before he goes he asks his daughters what they would like; the elder two ask for dresses and jewelry, Beauty only asks for a rose. The father leaves and discovers his ships are still lost, so can’t get the elder two what they wanted. On his way back, I guess got lost? He spots a castle with roses. Well he stays over for the night at the castle. In the morning before he leaves, he tries to get a rose. The Beast comes and yells at him and then asks him why he did that. The father explains and the Beast said the father could leave if Beauty came instead. Beauty does so and stays for an unspecific time. One day Beauty asks if she could return to her family. She is allowed to do so..but as long as she doesn’t stay for more than 3 weeks. Well the sisters get her to stay longer..and somehow Beauty founds out (I think dreams?) that the Beast is dying. She returns (via a comb) to the Beast’s castle and discovers the Beast dying in the rose bushes area.

The humans-as-objects and the villain come from a black and white “talkie” movie La Belle and the Bête. Now getting into history. Why is Belle weird because she reads books? Well girls weren’t supposed to know anything expect running a household/cooking/sewing and getting a husband. That’s the only things girls were supposed to know.

As for the Beast/Prince’s real name? Well I read that the Beast had been in beast form for so long that he had forgotten it. Unlike popular belief there is NOT Stockholm Syndrome. Much rather Disney’s version is the opposite of it. The person doing the capturing falls in love with the prisoner . This is another one of my favourties. With me being a bookworm and both Belle and I wanting “much more than this provincial life”

Aladdin
In the oringal story Aladdin is a Chinese boy and has a mother. The villain is a sorcerer who passes himself as Aladdin’s uncle. There are two genies, one in a ring, the other in the famous lamp. But the other genie doesn’t appear until Aladdin’s mother tries to clean the lamp. With the aid of this genie, Aladdin gets a palace which is even more impressive then the Emperor’s palace and marries the Emperor’s daughter. The villain gets a hold of the lamp by pretending to be a merchant and using “new lamps for old” swap, the princess not knowing the lamp’s importance gives it to him. Oh and in the oringal story, there are unlimited wishes. Why do people say Jasmine like Cinderella doesn’t do anything?? I mean what could either do?? There weren’t many choices for women. For me I think Disney’s Aladdin is based in India. Why do I think that? 1. Sultan’s Palace looks exactly like the Tha Mal (sp?), Aladdin rides an elephant, and the only place I know of that used elephants for royalty was India. Disney’s Aladdin was supposed to resemble Michael J. Fox but when the script got changed, that was dropped and he got Tom Cruise and Calvin Klein instead. I can understand both Aladdin and Jasmine’s feelings of being “trapped”. So another one of my favourties. I would love to play “A Whole New World” at my wedding.

The Lion King
Based upon Britain’s Shakespeare King and prince plays (Hamlet, Richard III, maybe Henry V) Very good movie. Sure there’s the issues that it might be based upon KImba the white lion, but isn’t the best thing Imation (sorry I can’t remember what’s the saying is)?

Pocahontas
The legend that Pocahontas is based upon was started by John Smith himself years after the fact. Pocahontas was only a little kid at the time of the famous “rescue”, which was probably a ritue to welcome John Smith into the tribe. John Smith wasn’t a tall, blond thin man in RLF. He was a fat, red headed guy. In the history John Smith is injured in a gun powered explosion so has to return to England for treatment. I like that this movie is about tolerance and also caring for the environment around us.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Very different than the book of the same name. Frollo is an Archdeacon in the book. This is one thing that bugs me..why is Frollo in the movie lusting after Esmeralda when he doesn’t have an excuse (like in the book) to just marry her? He’s a judge in the movie, not an archdeacon. It’s because in the book he is an archdeacon is why he can’t marry Esmeralda. Phoebus isn’t the good guy he is in the movie. He only wants Esmeralda for a one-night stand and he’s engaged to someone else. Oh and the book Quasi actually believes Frollo’s lies. Oh and Quasi, Esmeralda besides Frollo die in the book. Oh please gargoyles aren’t in the book? I been to Notre Dame and “up there” in the bell tower there are quotes from the book “the cathedral gave Quasi what he wanted”. I loved this movie as a 7 year old (and still do) because of the message is don’t count on appearances. I also relate to being an “outsider”.

Mulan
Well in the oringal story Mulan actually does have a real human brother, but he’s too young to fight. In the story Mulan isn’t discovered being a woman until after the war is over. I can understand Mulan’s problem of “Am I not meant to play this part?/Now I see if I truly was to be myself I would break my family’s heart.” For over a year I wanted to go into another program at my college and I almost finish the process I just need $95 to finish the application.

Tangled
The only 2 things that Tangled has in common with the story Rapunzel? Tower and tear=healing the hero of the story. Other than that the story is Very different. Rapunzel in the story itself is not a princess by birth. She gets pregnant by the prince and gives birth.

Then he is a pedo - At least compared to the laws of europe. Because he is an adult, and she is a young teen.
Even so I do not believe 4-6 years of age difference is that bad. As long as they both wanted it, its all fine for me.

Yes but remember in the past a girl was considered a spinster by the age of 20/21. So she HAD to be married before then.

Wow! You put a lot of thought and work into this! Nice job!

I don't really have much to say, I will say that I learned from this, it's always interesting to see others opinions and theories...

The thing I had no clue about was Snows age! That's a bit disturbing lol...

actually I read that the "dream sequence" was called Snow White's dream. I think it took place after the Prince Buckethead/Wish Well sequences.

some on youtube has never read snow white..since the person claiming that the dwarves ate the step-mother. But that isn't true. She dies by dropping dead from exhaustion wearing hot iron shoes.

In my view Snow and Cinderella are a bit more "free-er" in a way sine there are no fathers figures to be property of. Since I'm betting that if either had a dad it would have meant arranged marriage for those girls.

Post by MadameChung on Mon Mar 05, 2012 4:06 pm

That's not true. I mean there is ton of bondage and other "horrors" in Disney movies. I mean the first character who is locked up? Is Pinocchio. Then there's Dumbo's mom who gets chained up I could go on forever. with this.

I guess because the Disney movies may seem "scary" but most adults cater to more adult themed content. If you think about it, the entire Disney company caters to children ie: Disney Channel. Adults don't seem to have the imagination as kids do. So when they see a Disney movie it's just another movie to them but when kids see it it gives them the idea to imagine the theme of the movie. Plus, nowadays Disney supposedly isn't "cool" because it's based around fairy tales. It's kinda hard to explain but just as we grow older we become these boring robots and Disney just doesn't appeal to us. But as I said, children love to pretend their princesses or heroes or villains. But most still enjoy Disney because it's what we grew up on as kids.

oh come on children being TIED or chain up in Peter pan, The Black Calundron, Oliver&Company?

the Prince in Sleeping Beauty being tied up and gaged and then chained up in Sleeping Beauty? Not to mention the dragon in Sleeping Beauty too.

oh and what about the very emotional experience of Bambi's mom dying? Even though its not shown on-screen.

Not to mention the chaining up of Mrs.Jumbo in Dumbo.

or the chaining up of Aladdin

and lets not forget the lust, tying and chaining up in Hunchback

I guess they are considered childrens movies because that they are cartoons and cartoons are often made for children.
That doesn't mean adults can't enjoy though.

It's just the same as with fairytales. They are supposed to be read to children, yet often include violent things like shoving old women into ovens, alive...

Nasty scenes don't mean that Disney movies are NOT for children Wink
I agree with Bim. They are cartoons, always have a happy end and...
*gritsteeth*

... there is that constant SINGING...

Uh. I better stop here. Let's just say I would probably like Disney cartoon movies- if they would not start to sing without warning half of the time Neutral

Same here. I hate constant singing in movies. I'm always like "I watched this movie because I wanted to watch a movie and not a musical!" D: Also because I'm not really into the kind of disney music... ^^;;
But thats just my silly opinion c:

This is why I particularly like "The Incredibles", "Monsters Inc.", "Cars"...no singing. Although I don't mind the singing too much in some movies (Beauty and the Beast--it seems to work well), these coincidentally are my favorites, and I know....they are technically "Pixar" movies, but since Disney collaborates with Pixar... Anyway....

Maybe lots of people consider them to be childrens movies, not only because they are cartoons, but because when you go to the store to buy them...99% of the time they are located in the childrens, or family (which is usually loaded with children heavy videos), category. I don't think we'll ever really know why though...unless we ask those people that say "Disney is for children".

Honestly, I only really thought of "Tinkerbell" being really "children" aimed, but then I watched it, and I loved it (so did my bf--he loves the second one, "Tinkerbell and The Lost Treasure")--oh that's another one with no singing !! Razz
